Three design students from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden have created a chair that is primarily used for cultivating plant life. Alice Hultqvist, Emelie Sjöberg, and Linnea Nilsson designed the Chia-Chair with the intention of accommodating nature first and humans second. Unlike traditional chairs with cushions or upholstery, the Chia-Chair features a knitted, knotted tube as its seat and backrest, serving as a planting bed for chia seeds. The concept behind this chair is to prioritize the plants as the primary users, while humans are considered temporary visitors. The designers emphasize that users should approach the Chia-Chair with respect, recognizing that it is a living thing.
