St. Pauli Bunker: Symbol of History and Renewal

St. The Pauli Bunker, once known as Flakturm IV, was a World War II fortified structure built to provide shelter from Allied bombing. Today, this imposing building of 35 meters in height, strengthened by a new extension that increases the height to 58 meters, serves as a unique example of the adaptation of historical buildings for modern needs. Stretching over five floors, the new part of the bunker includes a hotel, restaurant, café and public spaces. Today, the bunker is not only an architectural attraction, but also an important cultural place. It houses exhibition spaces, an urban garden, a sports hall, as well as a memorial and information center dedicated to the victims of Nazism and World War II, which makes it an important hub for historical memory and contemporary social activities.
