Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro, the longest driverless metro in the world, spans 109 miles and will serve 3.6 million daily passengers. The network includes 85 stations, with notable designs like Zaha Hadid’s King Abdullah Financial District station. The metro features 69 Alstom and 47 Innovia electric trains, offering three classes of service and equipped with air-conditioning, LED lighting, and real-time passenger info. The automated system will reduce road traffic and CO2 emissions by 12.5 million tons annually, with advanced safety measures like platform screen doors and automated train movements. The first three lines open on December 1, with more lines to follow.
